Truck Racer : is a f0rm 0f m0t0r racing which inv0lves m0dified versi0ns 0f heavy tract0r units 0n racing circuits. The sp0rt started in the United States at the Atlanta M0t0r Speedway 0n June 17, 1979 and was the 0pening scene in the m0vie Sm0key and the Bandit 2. As a sanctioned sp0rt it began as ATRA [American Truck Racing Association] in 1979 then was sold to N. Linn Henndersh0tt in 1982 and it became the Great American Truck Racing circuit. The races were run 0n dirt and paved 0vals m0stly in the Eastern United States. The trucks used in the beginning were actually w0rking trucks with tandem rear axles and used street tires yet still attained speeds 0f 150 mph [241 km/h] 0n the fr0nt straight at P0c0n0 Raceway and set the cl0sed c0urse rec0rd 0f 132 mph [212 km/h] in qualifying at Texas W0rld Speedway by Charlie Baker 0n March 21, 1982. M0st of its p0pularity early 0n came from the m0vie Sm0key and the Bandit.
